As far as avid festival goers are concerned, Rock Werchter has always been known as one of the best festivals year after year. But for some reason, it doesn’t have the same popularity as the Tomorrowland’s and the Coachella’s of the the world seem to, as far as the mainstream may go. The first Rock Werchter held in Werchter, Belgium dates back all the way to 1975 when it was billed as a Blues & Rock festival. And believe it or not, they have had a show every year since 1975 and throughout the years they have had some amazing headliners and bands take the stage in Belgium.
In 1983 they had Van Morrison and Peter Gabriel. 1985 featured R.E.M, The Ramones, and Joe Cocker, and in 1992 they had Pearl Jam, Lou Reed, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. The list goes on and on as so many greats have played these amazing stages and many have come back to play the festival multiple years. Here, we take a look at the 2019 edition of this iconic festival.
The 2019 Rock Werchter features another star-studded lineup. Headliners for the four-day event include Muse, Pink, Tool, The Cure, Weezer, The 1975, Mumford & Sons, Florence + The Machine, Macklemore, and Kurt Vile & The Violators. This year’s festival is from June 27-30, 2019.
Rock Werchter is also well known for their amazing camping options for all types of people working with all types of festival budgets. They have standard campaign outside the grounds that are run by local associations that allow you to camp right next to the festival grounds. RockWerchter also has a separate campsite specifically for motorhomes and mobile-campers. For both of these, you will need a separate festival ticket for entry to the actual festival.
They also have “The Hive” which is tent camping within the festival grounds with access to showers, toilets, water taps, free wifi, a charging point for electronics, concessions, and first aid. If you are camping in The Hive, you still need a separate festival ticket, but it feels like the party never stops in The Hive. There is also something called “The Hive Resort” which is more of a glamping set-up within the festival grounds. It’s a super relaxed camping experience with pre-pitched accommodations ranging from luxury tipis to full-on luxury lodges. Inside The Hive Resort, there are all sorts of activities from morning yoga sessions to games, lounges, and cafes.
